Julie Signs With Lost Cowgirl Records

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Lost Cowgirl Records is excited to announce the signing of its first Lost Cowgirl! Please welcome Julie Bennett Hume!

Julie is a singer-songwriter from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She first started playing folk music in the 1980’s in Lawrence, Kansas and has performed on and off for over three decades. Julie’s longest musical hiatus came about with motherhood, especially when her second born child, Rosie, was diagnosed with autism. Motherhood and teaching consumed her life, but she never stopped writing music and has written over 100 songs. In February of this year, Julie released her first album of original material entitled “Late Bloomer” and was humbled to play to a sold out crowd at her CD release party. After teaching German, philosophy, and history for nearly 30 years, Julie retired in May of 2017 and is focusing on her new career: professional musician. The songs reflect her life through the years of being a thinking woman in a complex world: her fight against the conventional norms of society and also an acceptance of the challenges that life throws at you. Julie’s songwriting is quirky and at times lighthearted, but also filled with the honest emotions of being a mother, daughter, wife, disappointed lover, teacher, and equality advocate.

Julie has backed up countless bands on bass, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, piano, and different rhythm instruments but now is focusing on playing her own style and songs. Julie is a Lost Cowgirl through and through because she refuses to give up when life knocks her down, refuses to play by the rules, and refuses to act her age.

“It was hard to get beyond the backing musician role I took on in the 80’s. Now there are so many opportunities and women are much more supportive of each other,” Hume stated. She is now taking that step from the shadows towards the spotlight and in many ways it is providing her with a sense of relief.

“I have two dreams. To run a half marathon in honor of my daughter and her struggles with autism and to play a gig in every state of the U.S.”

Lost Cowgirl Records is so excited to help Julie see her dreams through. Welcome aboard, Julie!
